Jamaica- I’ve gotten figures from internetworldstats.com (1,067,000 users as of Sept/05, 39.4% penetration rate), I’ve heard numbers from the Ministry of Technology here, the state-run Statistical Institute of Jamaica has published numbers (which initially they got from me, back in 1998 when I published Jamaica’s first Internet Guide, which I got from calling the ISPs and getting numbers from them and coming to my own numbers which was 60,000 back then).
I want to know definitively how many Jamaicans access the Net at home, at work, at school, via free WIFIs and more so I want to know what excites Jamaicans about going online, if anything at all, are site publishers exciting Jamaicans at home about the potential of the digital lifestyle that awaits them online. I want to know if we mirroring global trends of social networking, dating, news and research and shopping online as prime activities.
