Whether you’re a startup or pretty establised, you’re always looking for new business. If you’re doing business in Trinidad or seeking new business from that country, check out Caribbeantenders.com.

What they’ve done is to list tenders and consulting opportunities in a central place,so you can view in full and see which ones you want to pitch for. CUrrently they have 1000 tender notices listed covering industries such as Construction and Energy (Engineering), Consultancy, Transport, Information Technology, Printery & Packaging, Finance, Pharmaceuticals, Electrical, Security Services, Janitorial Services, Agriculture, Furniture & Fittings, Real Estate, Health Equipment and many more. The b2b site also allows you to post your own tender notices and sign up for email and SMS alerts.
clocking US$32 million, with US$28 million of that raised online.

Barack’s US$28 million in online contributions came from more than 250,000 contributors- 90% were under $100, 40% were $25 or less and 10,000 people gave $5 or $10 to the campaign, Techcrunch reported.
All this comes one day before Super Tuesday, with Barack trailing Clinton by 1% in the California Polls, an important state for both parties. McCain who we clearly believe is the best Republican endorsement is leading the California polls with a comfortable margin.

We believe that when the United States votes this year, history will be made, it’ll either be the first woman President with first husband being a former president or the first black President who we feel will not assassinated some people’s thinking and fears.

The Republicans are going to be retired, pretty much how the Bruce Golding led Jamaica Labour Party sent home the Portia Simpson led People’s National Party. Americans, Caribbean people and indeed the world has heard enough and had enough of the Republicans. See barackobama.com and the facebook.com to join his group.

Future of Web Apps is a conference we endorse and encourage all Jamaican and Caribbean tech professionals and entrepeneurs to attend. It’ll be a major gathering of leading and emerging web sites and applications - including Twitter, WordPress, Digg, Google, Rememberthemilk, Winelibrary.tv and more.

Take a trip to Miami, the place we Jamaicans call Kingston 21. It’s a three day event full of workshops, presentations and of course networking and beach party lyming thrown in for good measure. Yeah we know Miami people call what they got a beach, but hey, we’ll let them chill in that dream since we know real beach only in di Caribbean. ( smile)

We at SiliconCaribe.com and Connectimass.com and Caribclix.com are going, so book your ticket, hotel and let’s meet up in Miami. It’s cheap, close and it staged done by Carsonified, a British firm that’s been doing great Web and Mobile focused workshops and conferences in Europe and now in the US. With some persuading we might get them to join us here in the Caribbean in ‘09.

Lawks someone tell me why I ain’t in Trinidad for Carnival right now?

5 WAYS TO GET YOUR BRAND NOTICED ONLINE

January 30, 2008

caribseek.jpg

by Ingrid Riley

The Internet has changed the publicity game. Before this digital space was around, almost all publicity came from publications and media outlets that “covered” you and your news. Now there are online publicity tools allow you in some respects to cut out the middle media man and put your message, your brand directly and quickly before your target audience.
In essence, what the Internet has done is given companies the opportunity to spread their news using online environments where their message is distributed throughout a regional and global network of people who are connected digitally. This Word of Mouse as we call it, happens when people pass on information to their friends, family and classmates by email, instant messenger, forums, social media and blogs. The benefits of this aspect of online marketing are great:
- Online publicity gives you exposure within your target audience.
- Online publicity drives targeted traffic to your Web site.
- Online publicity gets fast results - no long lead times to wait for.
- Online publicity is inexpensive for the results provided.
- Online publicity works for almost any business, big or small.
If you’ve read this far it means you want to know some of the things you can do, you can put in your integrated marketing plan- so here are five tools you can put to use.

1. Online Press Release Services. Once you’ve passed the hurdle of making your press release search engine optimized, it’s time to tap into online services to get your message out. Here are a few of them - Caribbeanpressreleases.com where you can add your press release to their site by extension before the eyes of their readership for US$20 per release; Jamaicapressreleases.com where you can submit your release for free and; Caribpr.com the pioneer, which offers Caribbean, Caribbean Diaspora and African American target audiences for fees ranging from US$100-US$600.

2. Site Directories. One of the primary tools of any Internet user is Search, simply because there are millions of sites out there and a searchable site directory like Yahoo makes the effort easier. As part of your online strategy, you must submit your website address, site description and the keywords relevant to your site. Most are free, while some charge a fee.

In the Caribbean we have a few of those serving general and industry specific needs. There is caribseek.com, which has two site listing packages- Caribseek Cool for which they charge US149/yr and Caribseek One, which is US$249/yr. The difference is the former gets you listed in 10 days, the latter gets you listed in 24hrs. Then there is top5jamaica.com the top site directory for Jamaica, which lists you for free as well as jamaicanservices.com, a directory of Jamaican services and barbadosbusinesspages.com. If you are in the restaurant business, then check out caribbeanbuffet.com.

3. Start a Facebook Group. For those of you not totally sold on social media as a marketing tool, go join facebook.com and see how many Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora groups are on there, how many members each group has and how the groups are using their audiences to leverage their brand. Hope you went and took a look. You see, creating a Facebook group allows you to create your own audience, build brand awareness and even prime them for website traffic and sales conversion. You can take it even further by creating your own Facebook application as jamaicanjokes.com did in December 2007 and now has 10,500 new users.

jamaican-jokes-on-facebook1.jpg
4. Start your own blog. You have your own website and maybe for the most part, there is little need to update the content daily or weekly at this time, this is the perfect reason to create a blog for your company website. It allows you to do number of things. You can use the blog to publish your own press releases; get instant feedback from customers, suppliers and shareholders and respond to them; plus you can announce new products and services. Think of your company’s blog as interactive publicity, an upgrade from that boring printed newsletter no one reads, an aspect of online publicity you have full control of. Have a look at the topw two most used blogging software, wordpress.com and blogger.com

5. Email Communications – This is one of the most obvious online publicity tools often overlooked. You see, every client, customer, site visitor and supplier you come into contact with, presents you with an opportunity to ask him or her for their email address, so you can keep in touch. Now that you have asked them to opt in, (giving you permission to contact them) half the battle is won. When you’ve done this, what you have is collected a list of people who are familiar with your store, brand and website, that you can then send email newsletters giving them how to information on how to use your products. You can also use this list to send eblasts (email ads) to alert them to special offers. Once they get this information, more than 50% typically passed it on to friends and family which cranks up online publicity and kick-start the viral marketing effect.
Clearly these are just five tools you can use as part of a complete online publicity programme, which takes planning and preparation and is an ongoing part of a larger internet marketing plan. Use this as the start of something great, not a one shot effort you make when you’re launching your business.

This is an official news bulletin from minvestment.com the HYIP, that’s been getting some Jamaicans equally excited and worried. Their investment option offers you the opportunity of investing US$100, lock it in for 150 days and get US$11,605.90 with an average daily interest rate of 1.4% -1.9%.

We carried a couple of days ago that Jamaicans having heard about from as early as mid last year have jumped head first. In doing our research on this online only investment company, we found some disturbing forum posts about the cease and desist order from ebullion.com to minvestment.com
This is minvestment.com’s official response.

JamaicanSayings - Another Jamaican Facebook App Goes Live

January 28, 2008

jamaican-sayings.jpg

Jamaica- They’re at it again.Idletribes.com a caribbean social community owned by web entrepreneur Jamie Ranston, has launched JamaicanSayings a facebook app that teaches you how to speak Jamaican through the use of popularwords and phrases. jamaicanSayings is the second facebook app developed and launched in the last 6o days. The first one was JamaicanJokes developed which invitedto facebook users to get their “belly full of laughs with a random Jamaican joke on your profile page everyday..and because of the range of jokes, it had a warning-it’s for adults 18 years and over only. That facebook app was developed by Sandor Panton, web entrepreneur, search engine optimisation consultant.

We like this trend of facebook apps from the Caribbean, we got great mind and talent here.Cheers to covering more of this in the next few months. We also recommend that because it’s in Miami, what we Jamaicans call Kingston 21 because so many Jamaicans live and do business there, Future of Web Apps Miami is on February 28-March 1, 2008. This is a great opportunity to get trend information and first hand know how on building and profiting from web apps.

Minvestment.com on shady,shakey ground?

fool-dot-com.jpg

I read everything despite the hype. I waited three years from the first time I heard of Olint before I put money in there and I went to school with David Smith. I didn’t invest until I did my homework and then I ran with my money to put it in.

Fastfoward, Jamaicans especially are hungry for high returns and minvestment.com has been one that has sprung up late last year and already has started a wildfire. As an investor I am both skeptical and interested, but my journalist nose has had me online looking to get to the who, what and how come of this.

My weirdness began when I was helping a friend sign up for this and I got a server error when I typed in minvestment.com. Never a good sign in my mind, even though down servers is a thing that happens for many reasons- scheduled maintenance, unpaid server fees, server overloaded by traffic. But I guess because of the Swisscash.com debacle, I was a little bit skittish. When a website has no phone numbers and other regular contact information I tend to start worrying.

minvestment-dot-com.jpg

by David Mullings

I read the recent article about Minvestment with interest, especially because I had been asked to do some research on it by a very close friend who heard about it back in November. He called me this morning and forwarded two emails from e-Bullion are very important for those considering investing with this HYIP. My friend ran into a problem recently - e-Bullion was not allowing him to deposit money with Minvestment. He sent an email and got the following response:

Hello,

Minvestment was instructed to leave the system by 1/16/08 and your errors are a result of their new accounts that they’ve been opening (strictly against e-Bullions orders) being blocked. We would highly suggest that you use an alternate payment processor to fund Minvestment if you still feel obligated to send them your funds.

Regards,
Security Operations, e-Bullion
