1984 and the Bloodfire Posse Rehearsal at Shaggy’s Studio

April 24, 2008

bloodfire-posse.jpgRamblings-I was at Big Yard till about midnight. Big Yard is the name of the studio owned by Diamond selling Reggae Artist Shaggy. I went there to hangout with my friend Tandra a studio engineer and I caught the rehearsal of the Bloodfire Posse, a Reggae band that I listened and danced to in high school.

They were getting ready for the Richie Stephens live music show Take Me Away this Sunday.  The band which has not played together in over 20 years is headed by Paul Blake and rehearsed their hits like “ Get Flat”, Are you Ready, Ready and others. It was great, the energy the boom and pulse of that studio vibe.

I was taken back to high school day fetes, Calabar and Jamaica College boys, Pepsi and Cheeztrix belching contests in the Art Room at Queen’s High, singing word for word these band’s hit songs in between Prince, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and Madonna. And I was reminded of the seduction of the music industry- the studio vibe, where the sweat and energy of creative heads clash to concoct songs, stories and poetry set to reggae riddims really. Some become hits while others miss the mark. The joy ride down memory lane was great though.
