blackberry.jpgI have been noticing more people on my Blackberry Messenger list using their status as a marketing medium, similar to how you can change your status on Facebook.

When Realvibez signed our deal with YouTube, I announced it in my Facebook status first and then on my Blackberry Messenger status. I was prompted to write about this because this week I was talking with an acquaintance in Jamaica who is on the board for the Young Professionals of Network of Jamaica Ron Burke.

As soon as I added him, I noticed his status:

“Ron Burke – Got Pests? – Call 90939364 – We Send Pests Packing!”

I thought it was brilliant and before overstaying my welcome sending messages, I said that I was gone because I didn’t want to become a pest and be sent packing.

The take away from this is that those of you with a Blackberry or friends with one, can use them to promote your business in creative ways that cost no money at all.

And God knows we all use it for marketing in Facebook. I do it too at least once a month.

Yes, think of away messages as a baby twitter. Its all about who you are “connected” with. I have a wide range of messages popping up on my friends “status” because all of them aren’t professionals. So some give me a chuckle, some make me glad to be me and others keep me updated on the accomplishments of my colleagues. Overall away messages, status updates definitely save me from logging into twitter sometimes. Sidekick now has status messages on the aim instead of away messages, so you can actually inform your buddies of what you are doing even while you talk to them.
