The Race Heard Around Facebook

This morning Jamaicans all over the World celebrated as one – 3 Jamaicans were in the 100m finals at the Beijing Olympics and history was guaranteed to be made. Few however could expect what they witnessed - Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt demolishing past records and becoming the first human to ever run the 100m faster than 9.7 seconds.

 He finished in 9.69 seconds.

This was the race heard around Facebook. Take a look at the screenshot with the status updates of a number of my friends. People like me were stuck in the USA where NBC decided not to air the race live - the most important race in the history of track and field.

Before Facebook, it would have been impossible to actually see unanimous support and pride, you just knew it was there. By the way, check out my profile today:
