It is heartening when we are supported by our own Jamaicans and we look forward to both representing the Caribbean well and increasing the share of revenue generated from Caribbean music and culture that makes its way back to the respective islands. The recent article in the business section of the Jamaica Gleaner was welcomed.
I would like to clarify the article http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20080912/business/business4.html and some aspects within it that may be misinterpreted by some:
(1) Realvibez chooses what content to upload and no user can upload to the YouTube channels we create. Realvibez does not police any content
posted on YouTube.
(2) Realvibez does not have an “exclusive deal” with Reggae Sumfest. Realvibez.tv was the official web partner of Reggae Sumfest 2008 and as such we have backstage interviews and other content that will help to promote the festival. We do not however have the rights to performances as that is held by another company, 876radio.com and they have the rights to stream performances from Reggae Sumfest 2008. I encourage everyone to support these entrepreneurs as well.
(3) Realvibez does have a content distribution deal with RE TV but that content will only be available at www.Realvibez.tv, not on YouTube. Some may have read the article differently and it is important that we clarify this so there is no confusion.
(4) The sum indicated as the amount spent in the venture refers to the capital that we have invested to create the Realvibez brand since 2002, not only the YouTube channel.
We appreciate all our working partners and specially want to recognize Jamaica National for the continuous support of Realvibez and RE TV for
their leadership in signing a content distribution deal with us for Realvibez.tv. Visionary companies embrace the future and the management of these companies embody forward-thinking Jamaicans who are willing to work with their fellow countrymen for the positive benefit of ‘Brand Jamaica’.
Realvibez will be launching channels on YouTube for artists such as Cezar, To-Isis and T.O.K. in the near future. We look forward to working with many more musicians in the Caribbean to enable them to also earn revenue by distributing content on “the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos.”
Massively distributed media is the future and we are proud to blaze a trail for other young Caribbean people.
