Over 500,000 Jamaicans now on Facebook..ohh yeah!

On November 23rd 2010, yes two months ago exactly, there were 429,160 Jamaicans on Facebook and for the latter part of 2010, the growth rate was averaging 20,000 new Jamaicans every 30 days. Now as of today there are 500,520 Jamaicans on Facebook. This is an increase of 71,360

  • Hey Sandor, what I did was to first give a total figure, then I broke it down in groups that people tend to want to know about- teens, young professionals. So take the total figure and each groups numbers on their own not as a subset of the total figure. And of course there are people over 40.

  • the numbers above are not adding up. manually add the total of each age group and it’s way more than 500K. plus, are you saying there’s nobody over the age of 40 in Jamaica who’s on Facebook?

  • Michael, the numbers reported are Jamaicans living in Jamaica. The answer to the other question, not sure how to get those.

  • Thanks Corve!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Insightful stats.

The number is good. This should mean greater exposure for social media marketeers and others. However, I really would like to see a disaggregation of the figures. There are many unanswered questions, such as:

    1. Of the reported numbers how are resident in Jamaica vs those living outside the country”
    2. Where do the non-resident Jamaicans live? What are the demographics for these people-gender, age, political affiliation, age, interests, etc.
