How to Measure your Power and Reach on Twitter

If you “tweet,” and you want to measure your power, your reach and how you rank amongst all other Twitter users around the world, there’s a website will put the hard core facts of your popularity right in front of you.

Twittergrader.com will tally up your “followers and followings” and rank your Twitter page numerically against other pages. For the record, @SiliconCaribe got a ranking of 415,139 out of 7,676,062 — with an overall grade of 95 out of 100. That looks to be slightly above average in the great scheme of all things “tweeting.”

The site also ranks top brands, cities and users. It has some nifty tools Who Tweets You, so you can see who’s giving you all that retweet love. Ugh, So cool. You can get a Twitter Grader Badge to show off your ranking. There is also has a Tweetit Button Builder which is a simple tool for creating a button that can be put on a web page.

How Does Twitter Grader Calculate Twitter Rankings?

Of course they can’t release all the secrets as we know some people would try to game the system, but Hibspot the creator of this tool explained the factors that go into calculating your rankings.
Algorithm Factors are:

1. Number of Followers: More followers leads to a higher Twitter Grade (all other things being equal).

News Flash: Jamaicans once again outnumber Trinidadians on Facebook

Caribbean Internet Usages Numbers

Just two days ago, I wrote What di a*s! more Trinidadians on Facebook than Jamaicans ?! when there were more Trinidadians on Facebook- 364,960 than Jamaicans – 363,380. Today, using the same method I spoke about in the other post I wrote Find out how many Jamaicans are on Facebook in 7 quick Steps Jamaicans have taken the lead with 369,640 compared to 368,500 Trinidadians.
The Question is, how can Trinidad, a country with half the population of Jamaica be so neck and neck in numbers of people accessing Facebook? This question brought me to look at the Caribbean Internet Usage Stats by InternetWorldStats.com. Have a look yourself.

Travel Tuesday: Jamaica Pegasus the most influential Jamaican hotel on Twitter

I’ve been pretty impressed by Jamaica Pegasus’s move on build it’s brand using Twitter ( @jamaicapegasus). The marketing manager there Prudence Simpson, plus Jan D and Cliff B is the small team that handle things. They had their first Tweetup ( a gathering of tweeters for a specific event) in June this year and are staging another this Friday. The first, had a little over 100 Jamaican tweeters in attendance, sponsorship from British Airways, live entertainment and they got ALOT of online publicity out it. People were live tweeting while at the event, posting text  and pictures to their respective followers on Twitter, their blogs and also on Facebook. Really, can your television, newspaper or radio ads do that?! I don’t think so.

1. Login to Facebook as usual and go to the Home Page. Not your Profile Page.

2. On the Home Page, on the left hand in the side bar, from the top you will see your picture and beneath that in the first block of information you’ll see News Feed, Messages, Events, Friends etc. In the Second Block of information you will see Photos, Ads and Pages etc. Click on Ads and Pages. If you do not see Ads and Pages for some reason, don’t worry, use the Search box and type in Ads, Facebook Ads, Ads Manager.

Digital Grape Vine: LIME to launch their IPTV product today

So I heard a couple days ago that LIME ( formerly Cable & Wireless) to launch their IPTV product today at SportsMax Sportszone venue in New Kingston. I’m waiting to verifiy the pricing, device details. Heard the device will cost about $15,000 and the monthly subscription about $3,000 a month.Heard they are launching with channels like HBO and that the video clarity is superb.

What is IPTV ? Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is a system through which Internet television services are delivered using the architecture and networking methods of the Internet Protocol Suite over a packet-switched network infrastructure, e.g., the Internet and broadband Internet access networks, instead of being delivered through traditional radio frequency broadcast, satellite signal, and cable television (CATV) formats.

IPTV services may be classified into three main groups: live television, time-shifted programming, and video on demand (VOD).

As a tech industry colleague said to me, it is expected to set LIME apart from its competitors ( Digicel, Claro, Flow) in the marketplace. Well let’s see.

Travel Tuesday: In tourism areas, a fixed camera mount for group photos

Digital photography may have advanced considerably in recent years, but the fact remains that most group photos still lack the person holding the camera. Enter the fotopol, a camera mount for tourist spots that lets visitors get everyone in the picture.

Australian fotopol sells two models of its camera mounts. The fotopol stand (USD 2,350) is a permanently fixed, freestanding camera mount that’s made from anodized aluminum with a galvanized steel base and stainless steel hardware; six colour options are available, as are etched and screen-printed designs. Local information and advertising can be displayed on the front panel as well. The fotopol balcony series, on the other hand, targets cruise ships and hotels with a permanent camera mount that gets attached either inside or outside the door frame of the balcony. Using the mount, passengers and guests can secure their camera, compose the shot, set the time delay and capture a memorable group photo. The balcony series comes in white; custom branding is available. Fotopol is also working on an interface that can make the balcony camera mount a rental option for passengers and visitors.
