Who would have thought those six words would have come out of my mouth. Is this the case with you too? I’m finding that most of my communications with colleagues old and new, my community of entrepreneurs, bloggers, friends are now on Facebook…not by email so much. I find that my email is pretty much now solely for client communications and that just comes straight to my Blackberry. Just noticed the shift in how I communicate daily now.

You can find extensive listings of Caribbean Blogs on top5jamaica.com. You can find a growing list of blogs on CUblogz.com even more so that Cariblogger.com seemed to have dived into the dotcom dead pool. You can follow some of the regularly updated Caribbean blogs on blogscaribe.com and blogjamaica. And You can find a small and growing community of Caribbean Bloggers on Facebook. Last year I was happy to report that there was a Caribbean Blog boom brewing, we had discovered how easy it was to start a blog with wordpress and blogger and we were happy.

You’ve been asking me, where are the women…well…here they are. You will notice pretty quickly from the list that the majority of these top female entrepreneurs are bloggers and in fact some of the top bloggers in the world. Added to that you’ll probably be surprised to know that they founded and are behind suck big internet brands such as myyearbook.com, ning.com, flickr.com,blogger.com and sixapart.com and boingboing.com. Will Caribbean social networks become irrelevant as more Caribbean people continue to flock to Facebook to date, congregate and market their businesses ? There are now over 20 Caribbean-centric social sites and networks…which ones will grow, make money and be still relevant in a year’s time and which ones will fade to black?

Ok so I’m having listmania, bear with me, but damn aren’t they inspiring. Check this one out. The Top 30 money earining blogs and what do they blog about : internet and technology news, products and companies; celebrity gossip and entertainment; food, arts and events; speculative stock market picks;life coaching; how to make money online; how to become a problogger;affiliate marketing and others. Note well that the top three money making blogs are: Techcrunch.com, Mashable.com and Perezhilton.com and in that 1,2,3 order all make their money from advertising banners. The relevance of mainstream coverage seems not to be an issue for this Internet Generation. I recently attended a rehearsal meeting for an upcoming event. About 10 people gathered to run through the agenda and to meet who was doing what and when. Then one person asked…so is the media coming? The chief organizer without missing a beat listed the names of two well trafficked and respected blogs and a Caribbean social network which covers events, take pictures and brands these pictures and puts them solely online. No one seemed perturbed by this announcement and less surprised at the response by mainstream media for the request for coverage was met with the usual we’ll see how the days events go to decide whether or not to send a reporter or photographer over.
So it made me ask this question…..is seeing and being seen online, getting “coverage” online and being able to share with friends in social networks, on twitter, by email, on instant messenger and by phone a fast growing appeal, reality even, with the clamour to be covered in the mainstream print and by tv stations dwindling?
