Sandor Panton, the search engine expert, affiliate marketer and entrepreneur behind top5jamaica.com tweeted a powerful question yesterday. RT@top5jamaica said “When will Jamaican companies, event organizers etc. understand that ‘media’ these days doesn’t only mean Gleaner, Observer, TVJ, RJR etc.” In short when will they finally recognise that media now includes the Internet and that the Internet is not some abstract concept that will dwindle into being irrelevant the longer they ignore or the more they downplay its value to a client.

Been reminded again, of just how a good book can be so damn disruptive to your life. I have to admit, when I first heard about the Toilet Paper Entreprenuer, Mike Micalowicz, I listened politely and then immediately forgot about him. Even as I trust the opinion and recommendations of my regular guest blogger David Mullings, CEO of Real Vibez Media. In fact it was David who flew Mike down the first time he came to speak in Jamaica and it was to a bunch of University students at the University of the West Indies. Sorry David. ☺
You see I’ve read A LOT of best selling business books and I’ve gotten something out of most of them. But honestly I’d told myself already…ok enough business books, just get on with the business of welll, running my business. Plus I’d have my share of successes and failures, so what’s the big deal anyway. That changed this week. It started with me prepping for the event, Mike’s second speaking engagement in Jamaica this time brought down by Gale Peart, Ceo of MyEliteGrocer.com to speak at the Technology Innovation Centre at the University of Technology.

How many social networks and how many social tools do you use regularly, daily even? I started to feel pretty overwhelmed the other day. You see, I run a boutique digital marketing agency and write this blog and with all the client work, keeping on point with information and trends in the Caribbean and globally…I use my blackberry to keep a record of God knows how long the list of usernames, passwords for all of the social networks, social tools that I test and also use regularly. So it made me slow down to take a look at myself and ask what exactly is my social media profile and what does it say about me if anything? So here goes.
