Jamaica’s telecom war seems to be headed to the Web and mobile platforms and well, it’s were most people are spending their time anyway.  With the local jamaican market in the mature phase, the new battleground seems to be the large US and Canadian Jamaican Diaspora. They are said to have  US$billions in disposable income outside of the annual remittances that exceed US$1billion.

In essence LIME and Digicel primarily want Jamaicans living abroad (or persons with Jamaican connections) to send credit to cell phones in Jamaica via the web and mobile platforms. Digicel has ramped up promotion of its Online Top Up product, and just now, LIME launched its LIME Talk app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The app has a US$19.95 monthly price tag, which affords you 120 minutes of ‘any time’ calling to Jamaica and a host of other Caribbean countries – Antigua, Anguilla, BVI, Barbados, Cayman, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Turks & Caicos islands. You can also top up your minutes whenever they’re depleted, and buy credit to call other countries.

If you have tried it, do let us know how  is it for you. . Try LIME Talk now.
