Cable & Wireless Communications to buy Columbus International for US$3bn

TECH NEWS – Cable & Wireless Communications is set to buy Columbus International for US$3bn. Columbus with its consumer brand FLOW, is a privately-owned fibre-based telecoms provider in the Caribbean, Central America and Andean region and will boost C&W’s mobile, fixed line, broadband and TV offer.

British telecoms firm Cable & Wireless Communications, parent company of LIME, has agreed to buy Barbados-based  Columbus International, operators of Flow Jamaica, for US$1.85 billion in addition to assuming US $1.17 billion of Columbus debt, making the total value of the transaction to US $3.02 billion.

Colombus, which has about 700,000 residential customers, provide triple-play cable TV, telephony and broadband over its own fibre optic network in the Caribbean. It also provides backhaul connectivity to 42 countries in the region, as well as capacity and IT services, corporate data solutions and data centre services.
