Our Caribbean Tech News Site, announces our media sponsorship of the Startup Jam workshop series in association with the US Embassy, the Mona School of Business & Management, UWI and Slashroots Foundation.

The first workshop of the Startup Jam Series, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Executive Seminar Room, Faculty of Law, 3rd Floor, UWI Mona. The theme of this inaugural event is “Run Lean” and will focus on how entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs can apply lean startup methodology to solve problems, specifically products and services they want to deliver.

The lean methodology is used in some startups to get to product-market fit faster by building a minimum viable product (MVP). This MVP that is used to test assumptions to better design a product around customer needs. Instead of expansive strategies or large-scale, untested products, you learn from your ‘market’—whether they are internal constituents or external customers—what is actually important earlier, saving time and money.

The first Workshop will be led by Darrell Scott, the Washington-based cofounder of PushBlack, a media startup. Mr Scott also works as the Venture Manager for Accelerate Change, a social enterprise accelerator.

The Startup Jam Series aims to help transform how entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs do business by teaching them how to apply startup thinking to solve problems. The nine-part series will be delivered over the next 5 months. Most of the sessions consist of an evening workshop and office hours with the speaker.
