The Jamaican pundits, pollsters and the social media influencers now agree that social media played a key role in the results of the general elections held on February 25th. It’s believed that with one of the lowest voter turnouts in the country’s, 47.3%, the use and influence of social media and online tools- which appealed to the Jamaican millenial- was what gave the  Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) what it needed to lean in at the tape and win with a one seat majority.

Now Jamaicans, having gotten use to this kind of two way communication online, which has given the perception of openness and transparency – the JLP which now forms the new Jamaican government, is expected to continue. And their millenial voters especially, is expected to hold them accountable.

Understanding that new reality, diGJamaica.com  a data and information website from the newspaper – The Gleaner Co. Ltd. has published a list Where To Find Your MPs, Cabinet Ministers & State Ministers On Social Media (with Excel download). Complete with a download that you can update as more public officials go social, this is a great communications and accountability tool that can be used to great advantage.
