PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten—
The third Caribbean Peering and Interconnection Forum (CarPIF) got underway in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten on July 5, with the theme “Expanding the Caribbean Internet.”

The meeting brings together regional and international experts for talks on technology issues related to Internet connectivity, digital content development and innovation, from a Caribbean perspective.

The annual meeting is an initiative of the Internet Society (ISOC) and Packet Clearing House (PCH), an organisation providing operational support and security to critical Internet infrastructure, and one of the world’s leading implementers of Internet Exchange Points.

It caters to Internet service providers, telecom operators, regulators, government officials, content providers, educators, technology professionals and students, and Internet Exchange Point Operators.

This year’s edition features several interactive panel discussions, debates and open mic sessions, and will be facilitated by Bevil Wooding, an Internet Strategist with PCH, and Shernon Osepa, Manager of Regional Affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean at ISOC.

The opening day focused on Connectivity and Caribbean Trends, with a keynote by Bill Woodcock, Executive Director of PCH. Rhea Yaw Ching, Executive Director of US-based Covela Foundation, will headline the second day.

The meeting is supported by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) and the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG). It is hosted by national telecommunications regulator, Bureau Telecommunications and Post, and sponsored in part by Telem, UTS & WTN TV.
