Caribbean BETA 2011: BETA Pitch Fest

Who will Be the top Caribbean Startup to Watch in 2012? We have a total of 17 Caribbean startups who have made their pitches and are currently being judged by Marc Canter, Michelle Messina, Chris Reckord and Anthony Chang here at Caribbean BETA 2011.

In the lineup range ideas range from Mobile and Web Apps, eLearning, Social Media, Online Advertising. All done in front of Entrepreneurs, Angel and Venture Capitalists as judges.

First Pitch – Pupalic by Yorkali Walters. “Marketing in the Moment”, using radio targeting and a Location Aware Ad Network(LADN) to allow an ad buyer to purchase ads by location and time. A vehicle for micro, small to afford access to our narrowing attention bandwith out there by incorporating the use of triggered ads that only play when your target passes by.

Second Pitch – shopPING! bu Jerome Campbell of JACX Technologies. Mobile shopping by Blackberry Messenger. A BlackBerry classifieds application that makes listing ads and viewing products simple, enabling your ad to be more marketable since one can share it via BlackBerry Messenger.

Third Pitch – DM3 Media by Dmitri Dawkins. A Social Data Network and business intelligence web application/ERP designed to reports and make better decisions.

Fourth Pitch – Socialite JA by Christopher Crawford and Klieon John. A website that markets events via online Ticket Sales, Banner Ads and Contributor Space Rental and engagement with the target audience. Taking into account a detailed audience profile.

Fifth pitch – TUMP by Rori Burchenson. A geolocation mobile application that connects its users to business, events, free stuff and deals. Features include “Around me”, “Nightlife” “iWant”, “Freenis” and “Map it”. Geared towards targeted mobile advertisement.

Sixth Pitch – CliQ by Damian Daley. Designed to monitor phone minutes, aid in bill payment, event ticket sales. Providing a financial eco system where the merchant, distributor and user can connect seamlessly charging only a small usage fee.

Seventh Pitch – AutoData by Daniel Cheeks offers users (specific to Jamaica) to find out about their car before they buy it, how much is it worth etc? Mileage, condition, whether it’s damaged and exactly what part of the vehicle is damaged. The Body type, accessories etc.

Eith Pitch – iTeacher by Marlon Walcott: “Math and Science education redefined by intelligence”. Using Artificial intelligence as well as real teachers to educate the masses using an intelligent tutoring system, adoptive learning, real time report cards, etc.

Ninth Pitch – Mapscision by Nyrom Williams and Garfield Coleman. A website and mobile application that allows you to search for products, services and events by price, proximity, name and street.

Tenth Pitch – StudyinJamaica.com by Edris Whyte. Using a Blog platform to highlight databases including Graduate programmes, scholarships, undergrad programmes, online classifieds and certifications.

Eleveth Pitch – What’s the Ocassion by Stacy-Ann Hayles. An online magazine for the events industry which includes event planning and event services. Event reviews, services, interviews with event planners, infographics with tips, tricks and resources on planning events in Jamaica.

Twelfth pitch – Sumo Payroll by Marvin Whitfield. An online payroll web application that aims to help small businesses solve problems including taxes.

Thirteenth pitch – EduFocal by Gordon Swaby. eLearning with a little bit of Gamification. A social learning tool that will focus on GSAT and CSEC incorporating gaming mechanics into the system as well as real incentives to encourage students to learn.

Fourteenth Pitch – Wynsol Realtime by Kowayne Wynter and Dwayne Currie. An analytics Web App designed to create and mainatain advertising tools.
