Digital Clout: Top 10 Jamaican Brands and Celebrities on Facebook and Twitter Today

With Brand Jamaica getting ALOT of love recently with Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Marlon James achievements to name a few, plus copious about of dotcom time on Vogue.com and column inches in National Geographic – it does beg the question – who or what is behind this mega media bump. And while this is great for Brand Jamaica ahead of the start of tourist season starting December 15, we are still pretty curious.

In fact I did a Facebook Status exploring this very question.
I’d love to know what’s going on and who and what is behind this recent rise of JAMAICA in places such as Vogue, Nat Geo etc. I am curious…is it the JTB? Sir Usain Boltness, The work of some global super connectors like Jon Baker or can be attributed partly to the Marlon James Effect or is it being led by established traditional media brands seeking to diversify their content, seeking edge and a timely update on the Most Stunning Cultural Force to hit the world ever – Our Jamaica. And then I will ask my fellow Entrepreneurs and Creatives…how are YOU leveraging all of this attention, a scarce commodity in this Digital Age?

So we decided to look at the status of Brand Jamaica online via its Digital Ambassadors by securing the stats of which Jamaican brands have the most social currency, the largest social communities at this time.

We went to SocialBakers.com to know which Jamaican Brands are leading the Digital trend on the top 2 Social Networks in the World – Facebook and Twitter.

Below is the tale of 2 Charts. But there are no surprises, it all reflects the culture tour de force that is Jamaica. We see Sports and Music leading the way.

Now while some may be busy claiming total responsibility for this media blitz, I’d like to believe that no one person, government, entity, ambassador can claim the credit for it all. As that would be like a single person playing an instrument and calling themselves an orchestra.  Kudos go to all Jamaicans at home and overseas and the culture and vibe and excellence they create with others locally, regionally and globally.
