Slashroots to stage a HackZika Hackathon in Jamaica This Weekend!

The Chikungunya virus since its spread across the Caribbean region has infected a suspected 1,379,788 individuals across 43 countries and territories. The more recent Zika Virus has the potential to become an equally alarming national outbreak.

In response to this global challenge and the region’s exposure to these viruses, the 2016 Developing the Caribbean (DevCa) Jamaica Hackathon will focus on strengthening the resilience of Jamaica and other islands of the Caribbean against vector-based diseases. The Hackathon follows the successful Developing the Caribbean Conference and Codesprint (Devca 2016) held May 5-6 across 5 Caribbean countries.

The two day event, scheduled for June 25-26, 2016 will utilize an open and innovative process to engage non-traditional partners, as well as engineers, designers and entrepreneurs, to collaborate with domain experts on vector-based diseases. The ultimate aim is to catalyse new products and services that could combat the spread of the virus.

Coders, Designers, Engineers, Entrepreneurs, Problem Solvers and Innovators from a wide cross section are therefore encouraged to participate in the Grand Zika Resilience Challenge/ DevCa Jamaica Hackathon.
