This is what happens when my overthinking and a Seth Godin blog post collide.
I have decided to challenge myself to blog every day for the next 11 days. Now, this might not seem like a big deal to many, but as any blogger knows, daily blogging is not easy. The daily commitment to write, contribute and share what you are thinking, what you’ve discovered …is just that a commitment…an exercise in faith.
Now mind you, I have been blogging for 13 years, there are almost 2,000 blog posts on this site, It has even won a couple of awards, has readers from over 45 countries. And I have built a reputation and somewhat an authority badge on things Caribbean tech and entrepreneurship. Plus it is now Dow Jones syndicated.But I haven’t serving my readers very well recently.
Along those years, I stopped, gave up, got distracted and have asked myself, why am I doing this again. I would always return though, when I reconnected with my why. And thankfully some of my readers too.
This year, when I decided to put everything I love to do, want to do, and had been doing in the Caribbean tech, entrepreneurship and innovation space under the SiliconCaribe brand – I got to that same place again. I started asking how often should I blog, since this is now a digital media and events business? What should I blog about to bring in the most readers etc. and in that act of overthinking I stopped again.
During the pause, I launched the SiliconCaribe podcast, that I am happy about that and am working on my most ambitious Caribbean Tech Event in 11 years. But I still hadn’t decided how often I would blog, even as I have had ideas, news, stuff that I wanted to share with you. Oh the procrastination!
Then came the email, with a Seth Godin post…the first 1000, are the most difficult . I read it, visited the links of bloggers he reads daily, took a deep breath and decided to get back on the horse…keep it simple, reconnect with my why again and challenge myself to just do it. And to keep this in mind always – I am here to serve and share by showing up and bringing value.
So as of November 1, I am going to write 11 blog posts, one published daily by 11 am est, for 11 days straight, in this the 11th month of 2018.
It’s a reminder, another jolt to myself….that discipline and consistency has to be paired with what you love to do. It’s the only way to keep growing.
