Well, “Unlocking Investment Opportunities: How and When To Raise Money from Investors for Your Startup” – is the theme of the next Kingston BETA event on Thursday, July 6th, at AC Hotel Kingston.

In an interactive fireside chat, guest speaker Melissa Pegus, Managing Director of Techstars Atlanta & New Orleans Powered by JP Morgan will share invaluable insights and data with moderator Ingrid Riley, founder of SiliconCaribe and Kingston BETA, all of it. She will also be answering questions from both entrepreneurs and investors.

Pegus, who has Trinidadian roots is a career startup operator turned global investor and has held leadership positions that resulted in seven company acquisitions and focuses on startups that are building the future of Commerce, Consumer, Climate Tech, and the Creator Economy.

Additionally, Pegus is a top leader at Techstars which is the world’s largest pre-seed and seed investor, Techstars has invested in more than 3,500 early-stage startups. And is the largest global startup network Techstars has 8,000+ founders, 5,000+ mentors, 300+ corporate partners, thousands of investors, and 54 programs in 14 countries!  

Their portfolio is as diversified as our 7,300 founders are unique – from HealthTech and Fintech, to Web3 and CleanTech; from Miami and Silicon Valley to Lagos. They also invest in solopreneurs, startups, and SMEs.

All of this takes place in front of an audience of entrepreneurs, tech talent, investors, tech industry professionals and other startup ecosystem players, who regularly attend Kingston BETA- which is the Caribbean’s first and longest-running tech event series and tech community. The event, which has been running for over 10 years, starts at 6:30 pm, has a Pitch Competition on the Startup Stage plus the best tech industry networking in Jamaica.

The Kingston Beta Team will select 5 Startup Entrepreneurs from all entries who will pitch for 5 mins to win JMD$300,000 from Development Bank of Jamaica’s Boosting Innovation, Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem (BIGEE) Programme as well as connections to global programmes, bigger markets and, other investors.

Melissa Pegus will also be one of the guest judges of the Kingston Beta/BIGEE Startup Stage to listen to the top and will be joined by known businessman Andrew Pairman, CEO of Anbell Group plus a surprise Community Investor Judge.

NB: All entrants must have a Tech-Driven or Tech-Enabled Pre-Seed and Seed Stage Startup and have a 5min pitch deck ready.
