Veekle the Caribbean’s first digital peer-to-peer car rental app won Kingston BETA’s Startup Stage Competition at the last event on June 8th. The Startup which is Woman-led by Founder Cherie Williams, won the pitch competition out of a field of 34 entrants.

The Panel of three judges – Sharon Roper, Chris Cochran, and Ugo Ikemba gave Williams the top score to win the $300,000 cash prize from Development Bank of Jamaica’s BIGEE Programme.

In response, Williams said

Participating in a pitch competition is about more than just winning; it’s about the incredible growth and key contacts you’ll make along the way. The experience builds resilience, improves communication skills, and energizes entrepreneurial spirit. It’s an opportunity to learn from others, grow your network, and tap into the startup ecosystem’s collective wisdom.

I will continue to push myself and seize every opportunity to present my vision for Veekle™ passionately and authentically. The journey may be nerve-wracking, but the rewards are immeasurable. “
