The Power of Collaboration: How Caribbean Tech Communities Drive Innovation

Published

on

Collaborating is exponentially more powerful than working in a bubble. Several weeks ago at Beyond the Beach, we had the pleasure of hearing Melissa Powell, founder of Pocmi, Inc. pitch her innovative company in the HR space. Following the event, Entrepreneurs Across Borders(EAB) founder Martin Babinec attended an event at Draper University and via the relationship we have been cultivating, the Draper team was generous enough to provide a full scholarship for Melissa to attend their five-week Draper University HERO Training program. With only 48 hours to prepare, Melissa packed her bags, boarded a plane and is now in the middle of her programme.

When we talk about collaboration we are serious!

We met Melissa through Ingrid Riley and Silicon Caribe Entrepreneurs Across Borders, Inc. partnered up with Ingrid for Beyond the Beach event where Melissa pitched her company. EAB then partnered with Draper to get Melissa to Draper University in Silicon Valley where she is being developed as an entrepreneur.

Think about this: If any one of these individual organizations had worked in a silo, Melissa would still be in Jamaica, possibly feeling discouraged, maybe even ready to give up on an idea that could help transform lives around the world. It is only when we begin to work outside of our silos in a”give first” manner that we can see entrepreneurs, and communities transformed.”

That was taken from Entrepreneurs Across Borders Linkedin Page writter by Chris Cochran, the organisation’s Leader.

This is a great example of collaborating with people and organisations who are aligned in terms of values and mission.
