Kingston BETA Had A SWEET 16th Year of Tech Community Growth and Impact

Published

on

We did it!! We have another year of Kingston BETA Community Events under our Belt.

By the Numbers

We had 7 Events with just under 1000 attendees, just over 200 applications for the Startup Stage plus 3 new partnerships that are creating a direct impact in our Community of Entrepreneurs and and Tech Talent. So to be excited about and grateful for!

From the Startup Stage

  • Our entrepreneurs are solving an even more diverse range of problems in Real Estate, Edtech, E-commerce, Fintech, car sharing, Cannabis, Health and Wellness, and Agritech.
  • We’ve seen Startups like Muckle, Veekle, StrainQ, and BPO Park win the Startup Stage this year led by amazing and unstoppable entrepreneurs.

Partnerships & Sponsors

TechStar Deals: Our new partnership with TechStars Atlanta and New Orleans saw 3 of Our Kingston BETA Community Members become Techstars that scored Investment deals worth over $54 million dollars collectively. They want off to New Orleans for acceleration and direct access to bigger markets and an expanded network of investors.

Additionally, Melissa Pegus, the Managing Director just told us that for the Techstarts Atlanta programme coming up 5 Jamaican tech Startups have applied and she will tell us very shortly as to who got deals.

Entrepreneurs Across Borders: SiliconCaribe scored a partnership with Entrepreneurs Across the Borders, a New York-based non-profit that selected Jamaica as its launch country.

This has led to two significant things. for Kingston BETA as well as Jamaica and the Caribbean’s Tech Ecosystem.

  1. Launch of Beyond the Beach – the Caribbean Investor Summit in April. Next one is in March 2024.
  2. Caribbean Seed Fund – A community of Caribbean and American tech entrepreneurs and angel investors interested in giving their time, market access, network, and money to early-stage startups. To be officially launched in 2024.

Brand Sponsor Signs On for Another Year

Development Bank of Jamaica’s BIGEE Programme signs on to support Kingston BETA for another year and we’re so happy to have the support of Audrey Richards, Chris Brown , Pauline Nelson, Natalie Doyen who advocated and supported the Kingston BETA Community from before all of this was sexy.

Coming in  2024

  • Monthly Events. First Thursday of the month at AC Hotel unless a holiday or something else pops up. Consistency and Momentum are important to our continued growth and Community Connection.
  • Guest Hosts all of 2024!! We decided to have more guest hosts from various tech sectors inside our community. We had our first in December with Joel Nomdarkham, Co-Founder of Amplify Studios ( Social Impact Sector)
  • Registration Desk will go cashless. Register and buy your tickets online. Finally.
  • New Kingstonbeta.Com website is coming!

It’s been a Sweet 16th Year for Kingston BETA! We all should be excited and proud of what we’ve been building.
